Rietveld

Gerrit Rietveld designed this chair in 1917-1918 and made the chair in its natural wood color. In 1923, he painted the chair black, chrome yellow, vermilion red, and ultramarine blue. These were colours in the works of artists like Piet Mondriaan, known for the art movement De Stijl. In 1971, the family sold the rights to an Italian company, which brought the chair back into production a year later.

Albert made this chair himself based on the original construction drawings. The chair is made of thirteen square slats, two rectangular pieces (armrests), and two panels (seat and backrest). The chair is not identical to the original: the backrest is higher (long back), which required the slats to fit through the armrest for the right proportions. Furthermore, the chair is upholstered and padded.
